Some people dream of success. At Rob Mintern Dairy Consultancy we make it happen.
YOUR SUCCESS

Our consulting services focus on our clients' most critical issues and opportunities.

We work on nutrition and feed sourcing, herd management, troubleshooting, building design and alterations, youngstock rearing, livestock health, grassland and soil improvements and business appraisal. We bring deep, functional expertise, enjoy what we do and thrive to bring success to our clients.

YOUNGSTOCK MANAGEMENT

The general health of the youngstock is assessed, and building assessments will be carried out to link in with the animals’ health. The rations for the youngstock will be assessed in the same way as the adults nutrition survey. The main aims will be to reduce calf mortalities, reduce diseas and maximise early growth rates. Our clients range from extended grazing herds to high production herds calving at under 2 years of age.

GRASSLAND AND SOIL IMPROVEMENTS

We assess forage quality both fresh and conserved paying attention to nutritional and mineral availability against the requirements of the stock to achieve improved health fertility and production.

NUTRITION AND FEED SOURCING

We first assess the aims of the farmer, the type of stock and the type of forage available. Following a viewing of the resources available, assessing the condition of the cows and milk records we will analyse the current ration of the herd. Proceeding from this we create a structured nutrition plan to achieve the agreed goals. If required we can source and supply the raw materials using our contacts and buying power.

BUILDING DESIGN AND ADJUSTMENTS

This will involve us examining the housing present at the farm - loose housing, cubicles, or both. I will look at each area of the housing needing to be assessed, this covers everything including the overall building layout, lighting and ventilation to smaller more detailed factors like cubicle design, water and feed trough availability.

LIVESTOCK HEALTH

Mastitis, lameness and fertility issues are problems which farmers have to tackle on a day to day basis. We will help to reduce the number of cows which suffer from these problems. The behaviour of the cow is an important indicator in its health. We will assess cow behaviour and how they react with their environment to provide an insight into identifying problem areas. We can also use herd details and health records to provide further understanding to enable us to gain a solution to the areas of concern.

BUISINESS APPRAISAL

The business appraisal will examine the accounts of the farm and we will then work out where money is being spent that doesn’t necessarily need to be. Between us we can then work through the accounts together and come to agreements on changing the costs to help increase the income. The business appraisal will help the farmer to work to a target to try and reach better incomes, and utilise their finances efficiently.
